If you have read this blog for any decent amount of time, you’ll notice that we go to Staufen im Breisgau, Germany, at least once a year. We have good family friends there, and we love the area, so we try to swing through as often as we can…when it’s not winter, anyway.
So, when we got back to Europe this autumn, we headed back to spend some quality time with these lovely people. David heavily curates photos of himself because he’s a weirdo, so here’s an edited version of me with him. Smh.
He does not look like that in real life, if you can believe it. =P
Before that, though, Ang and I had to get through multiple airport delays – something of a trend for us this year – as we made our way from Seville, through Madrid, and finally landed in Basel, Switzerland, which is the closest major airport to Staufen.
Madrid’s airport is pretty, but it sure is annoying.
Finally moving!
Due to terrorism and fear and xenophobia and security and everything else that’s so 2018, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg airport is an awful place to arrive after a long day of travel. This is the line for passport control, which we’re told is the doing of France and not Switzerland as the airport literally straddles the border of these two countries.
Aaaanyway, we finally made it out with our rental car and headed up to Staufen, tired after a long day of sitting and waiting and standing and waiting.
David and his family made dinner so none of us would have to fuss with a late night at a restaurant. Yums!
This Austin-Healey was in our hotel parking lot. I thought my dad would dig it.
After sleeping in, it was time for a carbo-load for German breakfast and a walk-and-lounge around one of our favorite towns.
Work out of the way for the day, we headed over to David and Claudia’s house for cake and coffee with them and our friends, Viviane and Christine.
Probably need to go to the dentist after that!
David and Claudia had an event to go to, so we hung out with our buds, Ajit and Lilith, and had a classic German dinner in the city center.
Here’s a terrible picture of Ajit and Lilith. It’s all I have – sorry, guys!
The next day, we headed to Galerie K, where Claudia works and where many of David’s paintings are on display, as well as the works of many other celebrated artists.
Cheers to that!
And, there you have it! Just some relaxing time with great friends in one of our most-beloved places. Check out our other Germany posts right here and see more of David’s art here.
A very special thanks to David, Claudia, Viviane, Christine, Ajit, Lilith, and all the other great people here.

I have always loved the look of this town! Perhaps we should go there with you sometime!!
Perhaps you should! :)
