Time for a bit of a winter wrap-up! You saw the first part of winter in my my previous post, and this one will cover January and February. It’s mostly just a rundown with pictures and such, as I realized I wasn’t posting much daily life action. So, here we go!
I made some salmon that was pretty damn good! Lemon pepper steez for ya.
Our friends, Paul and Paula, were back in Seville for a bit, so we went over to El Disparate to have lunch with them and our buddy, Bev.
Our friends, Cata and Andrés, own one of the few high-end coffee shops in town, so I dragged everyone over to their Parcería Café after lunch. Our friend, Gil, works there as well, and it’s always a ridiculous time with tasty treats.
I woke up super-late for breakfast one day with Pablo, Gil, and Bev at Bar Granado, which is my daily go-to. Thanks to Pablo for rescuing me from bed with a phone call!
I made red curry (again). It was delicious (again).
They started pulling all the oranges down from the trees, as is normal for the New Year here. The blossoms shall soon come, and shall make the city smell amazing for a week or two.
I received this nice beer haul from the Catalan brewery Cervesa Espiga for our Hopsmash project. They have really upped their game over the years, and now have some of my favorite beer in Spain.
Speaking of beer, we had a few iterations of our weekly Friday Night Social Club gathering at Bier Kraft. Stop on by any day, but especially Fridays so we can hang out!
Pablo, freezing to death…
Gil, being Gil…
Javier, aka the best bartender in Seville…
Pepe…
Our new friends, Aida and Andreas from BrewHeart in Germany…
Marta, Pepe, and Anne…
Gil and Mariela…
Yours truly…
Pablo, rightfully exalting a beer that I did not know was going to cost €58. Whoops.
A bad picture of good people…
Insane ‘nachos rotos’ and a burger for sustenance…
Pablo and Mariela…surprise Hopsmash twins!
And, lastly but not leastly, Andrés and Cata!
Some of the treats Ang made for Friday Night Social Club. I don’t remember what they were, exactly, but they were all delicious, exactly.
Scones!
Ang also made bread! It was quite good…nom nom nom…
Our awesome neighbor, Nacho, gave us this holiday poinsettia…
Our good friend, Jade, was in town from Morocco, so we had to spend a lot of quality time eating a lot of quality yums. La Chalá…
I had to go to the Triana neighborhood, which meant I got lost and started taking pictures of churches.
My typical morning breakfast smash at Bar Granado…
Ang went on a bike ride with Pepe, but first, they had to stop at Lola por Diós to fuel up.
They then rode out to the ‘Columbus egg,’ which is by artist Zurab Tsereteli and was a gift from the city of Moscow.
Kayakers doing their thing on the river…
Mariela was nice enough to have us all over to her house for what Ang dubbed Mariela’s Taco ‘Bout It. Great people, amazing food, memorable times!
Pablo and Ang…
Me, with Carlos…
Some of the spread…
Pablo and Mariela…
Pablo and Chris…
Ang’s tres leches…
Thanks, Mariela!!!
Bev had us over for some delicious shrimp!
Pepe and me…
Lexi posed for me, even though we’re still not on speaking terms…
Ang made these insane burgers stuffed with veggies, topped with cheese, and wrapped in bacon.
We returned to Al Aljibe with Pepe and Bev, when our pals, Ali and Andy, were in town from Germany…
And, we had to swing by Freskura, the best gelato place in Seville. (Fight me.)
Pepe went to South Africa for business and muled some beer back for me. Thanks, bud!
February meant the Seville Marathon, so I watched people suffer through it. I suffered just watching it!
I have to post this picture of chicken that Ang made. So, so good. But also, I love how the snow peas pop.
She also made coffee ice cream. My goodness, it was good.
I had elective surgery. It was annoying. I’m fine now.
We finally made it out to the suburb of Mairena del Aljarafe to visit Mariela in her HQ. She owns Alquimista Coffee Lab, which is the most top-notch roaster/coffee purveyor in the area. They also have a cafe out in Mairena, but it’s a car ride, so we had to wait until Pepe was available to finally get out there and harass her.
So, so good.
Here’s a waffle! With strawberries, pistachio ice cream, and a syringe of maple syrup. Mariela says nobody around here knows what to do with the syrup and they often just put it on the side. What. If only they knew what they’re missing!
After breakfast, we walked over to the nursery next door and marveled at all the uniqueness of life.
There ya go! Read more of our Spain posts right here, and see our Hopsmash project here.
A very special thanks to all of our friends, family, and the great city of Seville.

Have you ever been to Seville? If so, what’d you think? If not, what say ye? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
So many things to comment on: the amazing food, the great picture of the balcony, the beautiful flowers, and your many friends! AND, what a baker Ang has become–even bread!!! Thanks for sharing!
No complaints here! :)
We were in Seville in January and think that we could actually live there when we retire in a few years. A shout out to the great folks at Abantal for giving us the absolute best meal of our entire trip.
Thanks for stopping by, Al! Glad you had a good time here…feel free to reach out next time you’re in town. Cheers!
