“I live here now.”
That’s what my sister said when she posted a picture of Salema, Portugal, on her Facebook page. We were hitting up the Algarve with her (Heidi) and Ben, my brother-in-law. They were visiting from the US and we took them on their first trip to this area.
We were only in Salema for an hour or so, but it was really damn cool. A classic, seaside town in the Algarve, complete with beautiful beaches, historic buildings, and narrow streets that zigzag up and down the hillsides.
And, I must say, her love for Salema is not misguided. It’s a really nice place and we definitely need to return! I guess we should now see some pictures of it. It was raining and rather dead, and we’ve been to a lot of gorgeous towns in the Algarve, but it still has a certain je ne sais quoi that I love about a new place.
And, that’s it! Like I said, we were here for a very short time, and it was a rainy, dusky situation. But! It’s a really great place and we’ll have to return for another round. Check out all of our Portugal posts right here, and stay tuned for more.
A very special and very big thanks to all the fine folks in Salema and the Algarve, and to Heidi and Ben for coming to visit!

Hi Ryan!
It’s Ben Marshall here from ‘Simply Salema’. We have a selection of luxury villas for rental in Salema. Thanks for your fantastic blog. We decided to set up in Salema because we also think there is something very special about the place that we just can’t quite put our finger on. It’s so peaceful and welcoming and I too hope to live there one day like Heidi and Ben! For now, we visit as much as we possibly can around bookings!
Please keep in touch and thanks again for your lovely comments about Salema.
Kind regards
Ben
