Never enough beaches! During our Portugal Getaway, we saw dozens of them. And while they’re all pretty spectacular, Praia do Amado stands out in its own way. I won’t give the prize of the most beautiful beach in Portugal – that’d just be way too hard to judge – but this is a mighty fine-looking place.
After spending most of the day in Sagres, we headed up the coast a bit just to check out the area. And that’s pretty much how we landed at Praia do Amado.
We didn’t have any plans here, it was just a stop for a stop’s sake. We just followed some signs that looked like they might go nowhere, winding around small, green hills before we were met with the beach itself.
I mean, look at this place.
This is a big spot for surfing, and plenty of people were milling around late in the afternoon, chatting about the water or packing up to head home.
There were several folks still down in the ocean, braving the unseasonably cold weather to catch a wave or three after everyone else finished up for the day.
As we’re not surfers, we just walked around on the winding boardwalks and watched them.
And, as the sun started to head off toward the horizon, we just sat there looking at all of this natural beauty.
The greenery along the cliffs and above the beach is quite a change from the southern coast of the Algarve in Portugal, where most of the beaches have a more rugged landscape to them.
And, even though this is as far north as we made it up the coast, the change was nice and it was pleasant to see a little bit of a different part of the country. Regardless of whether this was a short pit stop for us, it was a memorable one and we highly recommend it, even if you’re not the surfing type. Até breve!
