Hi there! Every year, we try to take at least one weekend away with Heidi and Ben – my sister and brother-in-law – while we’re in the U.S. This year, we headed to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for a couple days to hang out and do nothing, really.
So, here’s a rundown of where we went and what we did, mostly eating and drinking, as per usual!
First off, I have to give a shout out to these rescue pit bulls at our hotel. Woof!
As Ang and I work remotely, we were able to head up a day before Heidi and Ben, so we had a bit more time to lounge about. Our first stop was Bangkok Thai Cuisine to get our bellies full of yums before grabbing some brews.
Topped up, we took an Uber over to Fifth Ward Brewing Co. to check out their space and drink all of their concoctions. The beer was pretty good, and we expect them to get even better as they get into a rhythm. The space is really cool, too, with a big back patio and space for games, as well as an additional bar. Thanks to Andrew, Zach, and Ian for the hospitality!
After Heidi and Ben finally arrived the next day, we headed to Ruby Owl Tap Room for lunch and to snag some great selections from their solid tap list and even better cellar list. Thanks to Kjersten (pictured below) for the great times!
After lunch, we slid across town to hang out for the rest of the day at Fox River Brewing Co., whose owners are friends of Heidi and Ben. They have a massive space on the water, so it made for the perfect lounge spot as we watched the boats come in and out while sipping on some beers and having endless laughs.
Endless thanks and high fives to Heidi, Jay, Kaitlyn, and Hannah at Fox River!
We also tried to stop by Bare Bones Brewery, but it was closed for a private wedding party. Even though the party was outside, we couldn’t get them to serve us inside. After a 20-minute Uber ride, we were salty! Haha. Boooooo! We may or may not have acted like we were invited to the party while we waited for a pick-up. =P
After that bit of saltiness, we went to O’Marro’s Public House for a nightcap. This place has an insane beer list, and hanging out with the regulars and staff was a total trip.
And, there you have it! While it appears to have been a gluttonous weekend – it sure was – it was more importantly a fantastic time (as always) hanging out with Heidi and Ben. Wooooooooooo!

A very special thanks to everyone at all of these local businesses for their amazing hospitality and delicious treats, and to Heidi and Ben for the hangs.
