We hit up the U.S. this summer to visit family, take some small road trips, and holler at some friends. We returned to the lovely town of Grand Haven, Michigan, to check out some breweries and relax a bit for a few days.
We already did an extensive post about Grand Haven a while ago, so you can check that out right here for a more detailed visit that isn’t just about all the yummy beer we drank.
Like we normally do, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Grand Haven-Spring Lake, which is right on the river and connected to all the walking and cycling paths in the area.
Not bad, eh? We also love that this hotel’s rooms all have balconies, despite the crazy lake mosquitos. Fortunately or not, we were there when it was still a bit cold this year, so we didn’t have to deal with much of that nonsense.
Like I said up there, this was just a relaxing visit to check out some delicious craft beer and hang around, so that’s what you’ll get in the following photos. Cheers!
Grand Armory Brewing Co. in Grand Haven. Big thanks to Kat for the great times and yummy beer. Not to mention the food by Righteous BBQ, which gave us all the drools.
Woooooo!
The next day, we met up with Jay from Odd Side Ales to check out their brewery outside of downtown. This place is super-impressive and really shows how much they care about making great product on a grander scale. Odd Side is one of our favorite breweries around, and we owe Jay endless thanks for spending so much time showing the place to us.
After that intense visit (!!!), we headed over to the Odd Side tap room in downtown Grand Haven for some food and drink. More goodness!
We also learned how to play the Danish game of Klask, which these folks take very, very seriously! Have you ever played it? Now that I’m writing this post, I want to have a beer and play.
Phew! So many good times with the Odd Side gang. Lastly, we hit up Old Boys’ Brewhouse in Spring Lake, which just happens to be about a one-minute walk down the river boardwalk from our hotel.
While their brews are not on par with those from Odd Side, nor Grand Armory, it’s a local institution that has some great food and decent-enough beer to have a good time!
Big thanks to Cate up there for the great vibes!
And well, y’all, that’s a wrap! If you want to see even more about these breweries, or if you just love craft beer in general, you can check out our Hopsmash project on Instagram and Facebook.
A special R.I.P. to Louis this week, as he unfortunately passed away after nearly 16 great years with us, driving us crazy and traveling the world. He was a big part of our family through thick and thin, and while he had a great run, it’s obviously been quite sad. We’ll miss you dearly, buddy!
A very special thanks to Kat at Grand Armory, Jay at Odd Side, Cate at Old Boys’, all the folks at our hotel, and everyone else we met in Grand Haven and Spring Lake. It’s always a great time!

Have you ever been to Grand Haven or any of these breweries? If so, what’d you think? If not, what say ye? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
We LOVED visiting Grand Haven with you! Some of these places look familiar, or do they all have the hand written menu going on?
The only place you were at with us was Grand Armory. Grand Haven rocks, gotta go back soon!
