Fortunate, we are! Kate over at 30Traveler invited us to her site to be interviewed about finding longer-stay apartments while on the road. For us, that means finding a home on the road, since that’s precisely where we live.
We focused the interview on our three five-month stay in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. If you read our site, you know that we loved every minute of it, and just wrapped up that part of our lives there in January.
Kate asked – and we answered – questions about how we find our places to live, if and how we negotiate prices, and our thoughts on sites such as Airbnb. You can read the interview in full right here. Our thanks and best wishes go out to Kate as she globe-trots on her own world adventure!

Thanks for participating in the apartments series Ryan. It’s great to find out other people’s strategies for avoiding ridiculous prices for 1-3 month stays. If any other location independent folk want to be interviewed for the series, just drop us an email! A goal of the series is to help people avoid paying airbnb-type prices where possible.
Anytime, Kate – thanks for having us! I really think people should do their homework when finding a place to stay for 1+ months. I know a lot of people do, but I also see plenty of people out there who spend €2000-3000 on a flat. There are very few cities in the world where a flat should cost that much, and *none* of them are Paris, Rome, or Amsterdam, to name a few. Unless you’re independently wealthy – we’re not – I see no reason to throw money around like that.
As for airbnb…I love the site, they just need to coach their owners better. And owners need a reality check. Thanks again!
